This academic year, the EAP for Social Justice SIG will be running monthly 'get togethers' aimed at creating an informal and collaborative space where anyone interested in social justice in EAP can: - exchange ideas, - share their work (SoTL/materials/assessment etc) - recommend a book/paper/blog/podcast they found interesting - reflect on an event they attended - look for a research collaborator and find a critical friend
or simply catch up over Friday lunchtime coffee with like-minded colleagues beyond their institutions.
We hope that this regular, informal space will allow us to get to know each other better, build connections for future collaborations, and in general support each other in learning, teaching, and researching social justice in EAP and language education.
The meetings will be held online via Zoom/Teams, every first Friday of the month from 1 pm to 2 pm UK time with the first one scheduled for this Friday 7th October 2022.
Mindful of everyone’s high email load and recognising the diversity of professional interests within our community, we plan to share the link for these meetings and any related updates via Social Justice SIG's mailing list, not the main BALEAP list, so if you are interested in joining us, please subscribe to the SIG's jiscmail (https://eap4sj.weebly.com/contact-us.html) and we will be in touch shortly.
If you have any questions or suggestions about our 'Friday Get Togethers', please contact Iwona Winiarska-Pringle ([email protected]) & Wil Hardman ([email protected]) as they are both organising this SIG activity.
We would be particularly grateful if you could share this email with anyone who may not be a BALEAP member but who may find such events of interest.
Thank you and we are looking forward to seeing you on Friday 7th October (and/or any first Friday of the month!).
Best wishes
Iwona and Wil on behalf of Social Justice SIG Committee
